On October 13, 2023, Shelesh filmed herself near the home of Douglass. She posted a poll on her Instagram story asking her 5. 6 million followers if she should visit him, noting he lived five minutes away from her video shoot. Shelesh then uploaded a photo showing the outside of his house with the caption "Let's talk like adults". Douglass and his wife were inside the home at the time. Douglass immediately posted a screenshot of the Instagram story to X, formerly known as Twitter. He accused Shelesh of doxxing him and demanded that YouTube remove her channel from the platform. Shelesh deleted the photo shortly after uploading it. She responded on Instagram by claiming she did not know how to dox anyone. On October 14, 2023, Douglass published a video stating he no longer felt safe at his residence. His wife, Erin Douglass, also posted a public message expressing concern for the safety of her family. She tagged the official YouTube account and requested immediate intervention. Douglass documented the incident by reposting the Instagram story where Shelesh scrolled through his parody videos. The repost gathered over 99, 000 likes within one day.Platform Response and Monetization Suspension
By October 19, 2023, a petition on Change. org demanding the removal of Shelesh from YouTube reached 13, 000 signatures. On October 20, 2023, the official TeamYouTube account on X confirmed a temporary monetization suspension for Shelesh. The company referenced Creator Responsibility policies. The statement noted that off platform actions putting personal safety at risk harm the community. The company also stated that the behavior on both sides was not what they wanted on the platform. The creator community reacted negatively to the statement from YouTube. Commentators and other creators criticized the platform for equating doxxing with content criticism. Creator Jacksepticeye publicly questioned the comparison, stating that criticism and parody are not the same as doxxing. A community note on X pointed out that the harassment rules of the platform dictate permanent termination for doxxing.Apologies and Channel Evasion
Following the suspension announcement, Shelesh posted an apology on X. She apologized to Douglass, YouTube, the creator community, and her fans. Shelesh stated her actions were inexcusable and that she should have resolved the conflict privately and respectfully. Shortly after the main channel lost monetization, users noticed Shelesh was uploading older videos to a third channel. Reddit user No_Rich5432 revealed on October 20, 2023, that this alternate channel remained monetized. Viewers theorized she used the third channel to evade the financial penalty. YouTube subsequently removed monetization from the third channel. The platform did not ban any of her channels permanently.Subscriber Comparison at Time of Controversy
